Jon Rhattigan, a firstie linebacker on the Army West Point Football, was added the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday morning.
The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented annually to the nation’s top defensive player since 1995. The award named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame ’69 and the NFL Hall of Fame ’67.
Rhattigan leads the team with 60 tackles (25 solo) and has 8.0 tackles for a loss. The Naperville, Ill., native also has two interceptions on the season, one of which he returned for a touchdown and the other he brought back 50 yards. In Army's win over UTSA, he posted a career high 11 tackles (5 solo) and had one stop behind the line of scrimmage. Rhattigan has led the team in tackles in five of Army's eight games this season.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced on Monday, November 30 and three finalists for the award will be announced Tuesday, December 8. The winner of the award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be announced in late December or early January at a date to be announced shortly.
