Men's T&F Shows Depth at Spring Break Invitational
The Army West Point Men's Track and Field Team showed its strength in a quality showing at the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The Black Knights combined for seven victories and 20 top-three finishes, topping the team leaderboard by over 100 points with a score of 248. "This has been a great week for us. The weather has been ideal and we were able to get a lot of good work in. The meets are really secondary to the training. Having said that, I am really pleased with how things went for us. Our men picked up right were they left off indoors. Our throws group continues to put up good marks. The shot, discus and hammer were strong events for us with big improvements across the board. We didn't win any of those events, but we were competing to win and our young guys are getting better and better. In those events, repetition is important and we got a lot of reps this weekend. That will pay off down the road. On the track, we won quite a few events today and we put up some really competitive times. Justin Young impressed me. His hurdle race was not very clean, so that 14.08 is a great opener and there is a lot of room for improvement. Kedrin Jefferson also looked very strong in the 200. He is going to run very fast this spring. As a whole, the team competed very well after a demanding week of work. We can now get ourselves back into the rhythm of school and look ahead to the Penn challenge next weekend." said Head Coach Mike Smith. Read more.
