The 2019 D1A playoff bracket is now set, with the Army West Point men's rugby team taking on Arkansas State, April 13 at noon from the Anderson Rugby Complex. "Arkansas State, with a heavy international player influence, has consistently been one of the top collegiate programs in the country over the last decade," said head coach, Matt Sherman. "We're excited at the challenge and opportunity to host and compete against such a strong program, as well as to improve on our performance last weekend, where we felt our execution was below the standards we set for ourselves."
Army (9-4-1) captured the No. 2 seed in the East Bracket after winning the Rugby East title during the fall season. Both the Black Knights and Red Wolves have notable games this season against several playoff teams. The Cadets beat Penn State, 31-0 on Oct. 27, fell to Lindenwood, 26-7 on March 2, and most recently lost a close affair to Navy, 17-10 in March 30.
Arkansas State (5-3) went 1-1 against Lindenwood (W, 29-23 on Feb. 9, L, 16-0 on March 9), lost to reigning National Champion Life, 27-15 on Feb. 16, and also fell to Navy, 19-14 on March 3. The winner of the first round matchup will take on the winner of No. 3 seed Wisconsin and the No. 6 seed Lindenwood in the quarterfinals on April 20. The D1A National Championship is set for May 4.
