It’s a Senior Day Sweep for Army Baseball
The Army West Point Baseball Team defeated Lafayette in a doubleheader here Saturday for two wins on senior day. The Black Knights earned a 4-2, seven-inning win in Game 1, before notching a 10-2 victory in the nightcap. With the day's outcomes, Army increases its winning streak to six straight. Prior to the opener, nine firsites were acknowledged for their dedication to the team over the last four years. Daniel Burggraaf, Jacob Carte, Mike Gagliardi, Tyler Giovinco, Matt Hudgins, Trey Martin, Sam Messina, Cam Opp and Josh White were the cadet-athletes honored Saturday.
Giovinco and Burggraaf both registered wins on the day, with Opp earning his team-leading third save. Giovinco got the starting nod in Game 1, allowing seven hits and two runs in 6.0 innings. Burggraaf shut the Leopards down in the nightcap, giving up just four hits, one run and three walks in 5.2 innings. The two combined to strike out 10 batters during their time on the hill. John McKenna, Andre Walden, and Martin led the team with three hits each in the twin bill. Tim Simoes recorded a team-best three runs batted in, while five different Cadets notched two runs each.
