After breaking the program record in the discus throw on Saturday, freshman Jamir Gibson of the Army West Point men's track and field team has been selected as the Army West Point Athletic Association Player of the Week.

Gibson's throw of 58.64 meters at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational shattered a 17-year standing record and placed him among the top performers in the nation. The Zion, Ill., native now ranks fifth in the East Region and fourteenth in the NCAA in discus. In addition, he is the top ranked discus thrower under the age of 20.

The plebe also received recognition from the Patriot League this week, as he earned Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week honors.
