While most of the team was off in preparation for next week's Patriot League Championships, the Army West Point Track and Field Team send a group of field athletes out for competition this weekend. Highlighting the weekend was firstie Jeff Giannettino, who competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The firstie captain is a Des Moines native, and aimed to compete at the event since he arrived at West Point four years ago. The result was a good one, as Giannettinio tied his Academy record with a 2.16 meter jump.
While Giannettino was the only Black Knight in Iowa, several throwers competed at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Michael Renard was a bright spot for the Cadets on Friday, winning his discus throw event with a 56.29 meter throw. It is just the third throw in program history to reach over 56 meters. Teammate Jamir Gibson set a new program record with a 58.64 meter throw last weekend.
On the women's side, Emily Mikoud set a new career best in the shot put. Her 14.75 meter throw puts her at the top of the Patriot League charts.
