Twelve cadets from the Russian Language Forum visited the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations. Cadets met with representatives of the mission: H.E. Mr. Kairat Umarov, Amassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN, and Counsellors Colonel Yerulan Akylbayev and Anuar Zhainakov.
CDT Tyler Skidmore'21 wrote about this trip section: "The trip to the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations was extremely interesting and informative. I had already traveled to the Kazakhstani Military Academy over spring break, so the trip helped put their method of officer training and education into the broader context of Kazakhstan’s international security policy and objectives. The Republic of Kazakhstan seems to want to join the world stage as a problem-solver. Their commitment to countering terrorism with educational programs for regions afflicted with terror as well as with military support to the U.N. Peacekeeping Forces is indicative of this. The Kazakhstani diplomats were very friendly and were eager to answer any questions that we had about their country. They exuded a sense of pride and optimism for the future of their country and for the future of the world. It was a fantastic opportunity to put the language and culture skills we learn in the classroom to practice. I would highly recommend this trip to any students of Russian, especially those interested in international policy."
