Robotics (RRC) Wins Best Poster at We Robot
The Robotics Research Center (RRC) won the Best Poster Award at We Robot 2019. We Robot 2019 was held in Coral Gables, FL and hosted by the University of Miami School of Law. It is an interdisciplinary conference on the legal and policy questions relating to robots. The topic of the poster was "How Robots and Autonomous Weapon Systems are Changing the Norms and Laws of War" and it represented collaboration between the Department of English and Philosophy (DEP) and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). This semester, six sections of Philosophy examined the ethical and legal considerations of autonomous weapons systems. These Cadets will complete a project designed to encourage them to explore, both in the classroom and in robotics lab environments, artificial intelligence (AI) powered robots, drones, self-driving cars, and emerging human on and out of the loop technologies such as robot swarms. The poster was presented by Mr. Dominic Larkin and Dr. William Barry.
