MAJ Sablan and 43 Nuclear Engineering cadets visited the STERIS IsoMedix Facility in Chester, NY. Cadets learned about the radiation applications involved in sterilizing everyday products. Cobalt-60 was received by the faculty from Canada as a result of neutron activation and then observed to be loaded into the irradiation bay. Cadets also learned of the political and physical security concerns surrounding the handling of this type of material. Events and partnerships such as this help to ensure that West Point continues to be at the forefront of the nuclear engineering field.
