Operation Market-Garden Staff RideCadets visited the American cemetery and memorial in Margraten, in the Netherlands, and conducted a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the 8,301 dead and 1,722 missing in action memorialized there. Cadets both received and conducted presentations on several individuals interred at Margraten, including LTC Robert Cole '39, a Medal of Honor recipient and the commander of 3rd Battalion, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during Operation Market-Garden and MG Maurice Rose, the highest-ranking American officer killed by direct enemy action in the European theater of operations. Through this experience, the cadets received a powerful reminder of the human cost of combat and the sacrifices of those that have preceded them in the profession of arms.
