From Graves to Hennessey: Literary War Remembrance AIADOn the “From Graves to Hennessey: Literary War Remembrance” Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD) Cadets James Perilloux, Lillian Brown, Stephanie Dolehide, and Michael Kaffka experienced an immersive study of how junior military officers in the United States and the United Kingdom have written about their training and combat experiences since WW1. After reading Robert Graves’ WW1 memoir Goodbye to All That and Patrick Hennessey’s 2009 memoir about his experience at Sandhurst and in Iraq and Afghanistan The Junior Officers’ Reading Club, the cadets traveled to the UK where they explored a number of British War memorials and museums and met with several British military officers, including Patrick Hennessey, to learn how storytelling impacts the way society and individuals remember war.
