Army West Point Women's Basketball Head Coach Dave Magarity will be inducted into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Honor Roll for 2019. Magarity is one of two representatives for Marist College that will receive the distinction at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday, September 14, the school announced yesterday.
Magarity was the head coach for the Red Foxes' men's team from 1986-2004. The program's all-time leader in wins with 253, Magarity was three times named the conference coach of the year. In his first season, he guided the Red Foxes to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. He played a large role in the development of Rik Smits, who went on to be the second overall pick of the 1988 NBA Draft. Additionally, he brought Marist back into postseason play with an NIT appearance in 1996. Of the 18 Marist teams he coached, 15 of them reached double-digit wins and two eclipsed the 20-win mark.
Now entering his 14th season at the helm of the Black Knights program, Magarity has brought Army women's basketball to prominence. The program's all-time leader in wins, he has led the Black Knights to four postseason appearances with a pair of NCAA Tournament and WNIT berths. He also boasts 561 career wins with 248 while leading the Black Knights. Story.
