Thanks to 13 saves in the third period by Trevin Kozlowski, the Army West Point Hockey team topped UConn 2-1 on the road Friday night. The Black Knights are now 2-0 and have topped two non-conference opponents for the first time to start the season since 1989. Army jumped ahead thanks to John Zimmerman's first career goal, but the Huskies answered right away to knot the score at 1-1. With four minutes to go in the second period, Marshal Plunkett connected with Daniel Haider for the game-winner.
Kozlowski ended the game with 27 saves including 13 in the final period to maintain the Cadets' lead. The first period was even with both teams recording five shots on goal and one penalty apiece. Things heated up in the second stanza however with goals from each side spacing 31 seconds apart. Army struck first when Dominic Franco won the faceoff at the left circle. Zimmerman one-timed the puck to beat Tomas Vomacka stick side high. Read more.
