The Army West Point Volleyball team claimed its fourth consecutive victory with a straight sets win over Lafayette on Tuesday. Entering the night with just two games remaining on their regular season schedule, the Black Knights aimed to continue their hot streak towards the Patriot League tournament.
Despite winning 3-0, Army had to fight for this one, surviving strong pushes from the Leopards in sets one and three. The Cadets played their best ball in the second, taking the game 25-14. Two Cadets reached double digit kills, as Allie Strong had 12 and Monica Eckford had 11 kills. It was another efficient offensive night for Eckford, who recorded a .400 hitting percentage.
"Lafayette played very good volleyball today," Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "We, as a team, were in agreement after the match that we didn't play our best volleyball, but we managed to stay tough in some crucial situations and we took care of business when we needed to score. Peyton Schendt came in and gave us some important swings, Monica was good and steady on her swings and Sydney Morriss brought the magic towards the end of the third set."
Sayler Butters led the team in digs with 15 while Hannah Presley added another 20-assist game to her resume. The junior setter also recorded four kills of her own on five attempts. Read more.
