West Point Women's Handball recently competed in their second home league tournament. Three years ago, West Point traveled to Penn State to help them start up a program, now Penn State has two full teams and are strong competition at College Nationals.
Both West Point Black and West Point Gold played well. West Point Black beat Penn State White in a shutout, 34-0. Then they followed that up with a decisive win against Penn State Blue, 31-7. West Point Gold also had two strong wins against Penn State Gold, winning 20-3 and 18-4.
Both starting goalies on West Point Black and West Point Gold, Cadets Stevens '22 and Michell '20 made their first appearances on the court of the semester after starting off in the goal. Even though it was their first time playing on the court their time spent in practice paid off and both scored.
The weekend was a success. Cadet Thompson '21 made a guest appearance in goal to allow Cadet Stevens to play on the court and even though it was her first game she kept Penn State White to a shutout. Also, of note, Cadet Coston '23 found the back of the net on a great shot to get her name on the goal scorers for the semester. The decisive wins are a promising sign for league games and College Nationals in the Spring.
