Throughout the spring, Rich DeMarco, the radio play-by-play voice of the Army football team, will be counting down his top 10 moments of the last six seasons on the gridiron under head coach Jeff Monken.
Number 10: Chris Carnegie's interception return for a touchdown against UConn at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 8, 2014.
When you think back to the Jeff Monken era and especially that first year, 2014, the game against Connecticut is the signature moment.
You start with Yankee Stadium with Jeff Monken taking an Army team there for the first time. It was a young Black Knights team and it all seemed to be coming together that day in the Bronx. What a day it was for Joe Walker, with two touchdowns, as Army took a two-touchdown lead.
Then came the fourth quarter. Connecticut was bidding for a comeback, down seven and driving the ball into deep into Army territory with the goal line in its sights. With the ball on the 6-yard line and the Huskies facing a 2-and-3, Chris Carnegie stepped in front of a pass and took it coast-to-coast for the touchdown. That game was not only the signature moment of the 2014 season, but served as a first, of a number of late game heroics for the Black Knights for several seasons to come.
