Men's Cross Country Kicks-Off Season Against SyracuseThe Army West Point Men's Cross Country team opened its 2020 season against Syracuse at Twin Ponds on the Farm on Saturday. The defending ACC Champion Orange got the better of the three-time defending Patriot League Champion Black Knights, winning the meet by a score of 15-50. Firstie Daniel Horoho led the way for the cadets, finishing 10th with a time of 23:12.3 Junior Marshall Beatty was the Black Knights other top-15 finisher, placing 14th. The competition marked the first non-football sporting event for Army West Point of the academic year following the COVID-19 outbreak. Earlier this week, Army announced that it will face Navy in the annual Army-Navy Star Meet on October 17 in Annapolis, Md.

“After a summer of uncertainty it was important for us to have this competition. With only three teams in our geographic region still competing this fall, we had to hope that either or both of them (Syracuse and Boston College) would be willing to compete with us and we were fortunate to get a date worked out with Syracuse that worked for both teams. The course was challenging and I felt like it would be a major factor in the race, but as it turned out Syracuse simply overwhelmed us early and we did not respond. We have shown great discipline and execution in practice, but that was absent from our performance today. We had a few guys test their limits and that was good to see, but the overall effort level was not consistent with who we are, who we have been and who we expect to be.” Said Head Coach Mike Smith.
