Thanks to a second half surge, the Army West Point Men's Soccer team took down Merchant Marine 1-0 in a Saturday night contest. Scoreless after the first half, Justin McStay netted a goal off a corner kick by Oscar Pereira in the 50th minute. Army continued to press to help preserve a 1-0 shutout for Jacob Suppiah. The Black Knights and Mariners entered halftime with a knotted 0-0 score. Army led in shots (8-3) and corner kicks (3-2) after the first 45 minutes. In the 50th minute, the Cadets found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Pereira capitalized on a corner kick opportunity five minutes into the second half. He chipped it into the box where McStay connected and found the back of the net. Army finished the game with an impressive 16-6 advantage in shots. The Black Knights led in corner kicks (11-2). The Cadets improve to 18-1-1 against USMMA in the all-time series. It marked the first contest between the two squads since 1983. Read more.
