Women's Soccer Blanks Coast Guard
Thanks to two goals in the first 11 minutes of the game, the Army West Point Women's Soccer team came out on top of Coast Guard by a 3-0 score last night.
“We are incredibly grateful to so many people who gave us the opportunity to compete tonight,” said head coach Adrian Blewitt. “Big thanks to USCGA for being gracious hosts and for all of the USMA staff who worked hard behind the scenes to make this happen. Both teams played the game with great spirit and it was an enjoyable game.”
The Cadets went ahead 1-0 in the first five minutes of the game which was followed by another score at the 11-minute mark. After leading 2-0 at the half, the Black Knights notched another goal in the 66th minute to win the game 3-0.
Kaitlin Palaian, Elise Urkov and Morgan Walsh were the goal scorers for Army tonight representing the plebe, yearling and firstie classes on the score sheet. Sydney Cassalia preserved the shutout tonight with multiple stops.
“All in all, it was an incredible feeling to be back on the field with the girls,” said senior captain Mia Padon. “The energy the team brought onto the field was nothing short of inspiring. In so many ways, it was freeing to get out and finally do what we've been training for the past three months. Since we got here in July, we've been itching to get on the pitch, and I think it really reminded us why we put so much of ourselves into early mornings and long practices.”
