Words of Wisdom from CDT West ’21
USMA Class of 2021 Cadet Lexi West, chose West Point because when she was younger, her family sponsored cadets and she always looked up to them and thought very highly of them. She knew she wanted to be surrounded by people who would inspire her to be a better person every day and share the same desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
“My hometown is West Point, NY. I lived here in preschool and then moved back when I was 10 years old and have been here ever since. Through my experiences at West Point, I have become a more confident and authentic leader. I have become more empathetic to others and their experiences, and I recognize the importance of not just knowing the Army Values but living by them.
Knowing I will finally be leaving my hometown in six months to start my Army career is pretty surreal, but I am excited for what’s to come. I am excited to have the opportunity to lead soldiers and make an impact within the organization in any way I can.
I have had a unique experience because West Point is not just where I go to school, but it is my home. West Point has brought the most incredible people into my life, whether that was the friends I met and grew up with or met during my time as a cadet. I will always be grateful for the cadets I knew when I was younger who inspired me to come here, as well as my peers who have helped me over the past four years. I’ll miss the small moments the most, like finishing a really hard practice with my teammates or spending time with my friends on the weekends.
To the class of 2025, my advice would be to take advantage of the opportunities given to you here and be true to yourself. The 47-month experience really is what you make of it. You’ll have good days and bad days, but it’ll all be worth it in the end.
Shoutout to E-3, Above the Rest!”
