The Army West Point Wrestling team held the company of some of the best wrestling programs in the country this week as they were ranked No. 25 in the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll to start their 2021 campaign.
The poll is voted on by two coaches from each Division I wrestling conference. Each first-place vote is worth 25 points, 24 points for a second-place vote, 23 for a third-place vote and so on through to one point for a 25th-place vote. The poll is based on dual meet results.
Among those listed were 11 Big Ten schools, four ACC and Big 12 teams and two EIWA, Mid-American and Pac-12 schools. Army received 34 total votes, following just behind Northern Iowa at No. 24. Former conference champion, Lehigh University, was the only other EIWA school to make the Top 25.
Army will open its season this Saturday when it welcomes Long Island University to Gillis Field House for a 2 p.m. matchup. Read more.
