Lauren Lithgow of the Army West Point Women’s Basketball team was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced in a release yesterday afternoon.
Lithgow earned the award after averaging 17.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from 3-point range in this past weekend's series against Colgate. Additionally, the Manasquan, N.J., native was 7-for-8 from the line, which improved her season total to 24-for-27. Lithgow's season free throw average of 89.7 percent ranks third in the nation among freshman that have attempted at least 25 free throws.
The Black Knights turned an early 18-point deficit into a 19-point win on Sunday to split the series with the Raiders and improve to 4-3 on the season.
Army will have a home-and-home series with Holy Cross next weekend in a matchup that pits Dave Magarity against his daughter Maureen, who served as an assistant on his staff at Army from 2006-10. The Cadets will host Holy Cross on Saturday then travel out to Worcester, Mass., for Sunday’s matchup. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and are set to start at 3 p.m. ET.
