The No. 8 Army West Point gymnastics team posted team and individual season highs in a 413.4-375.1 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma Saturday afternoon with the Black Knights competing at Gross Sports Center in a virtual meet.
Head coach Doug Van Everen was pleased with his team’s performance from start to finish against its second top five nationally ranked team. “Overall, the team did better today following our season opener a couple of weeks ago against Penn State.”
“We still have guys out, so I know we will do better soon,” Van Everen added. “High bar is a weak event for us, and we need improvement. We are working hard and moving forward.”
Army turned in a season-high 64.65 in the opening event with junior Matthew Davis posting the highest mark of 13.85 in his first competition this season. Yearling Corban Barstow followed with a 13.1 hitting the 13-point range for the first time this season. The Black Knights' team score of 64.65 is a season best, bettering their previous mark by over three points. Read more.
