Lonnie Grayson and Sarah Bohn of Army West Point Basketball and Anusha Pakkam of Army Rifle were selected as the Corps Squad Athletes of the Month for January.
Men’s Basketball - Lonnie Grayson ’21, a firstie and starting shooting guard on the Army West Point Men's Basketball Team, has emerged as the team's leader both on and off the court.
The coaching staff selected him to be a co-captain. He, along with two other first-class cadets, created the Athletes United program as part of an initiative to help educate cadets about issues related to diversity, inclusion, and equity. He's also been a leader within the Cadet Investment Club and Finance Forum. Recently, USCC leadership selected him to serve as the cadet company commander of Company A-1. On the court, Lonnie leads the team in minutes played (28 per game), is second in points (12 per game), third in rebounds (4.5 per game), and third in assists (2 per game).
Rifle - Anusha Pakkam ’24, a plebe who led the team with a 4.055 GPA last term. In addition to her classroom performance, she helps her classmates as a peer tutor.
On the range, she has been one of the team's top performer. During last week's virtual match against NC State, she was second highest shooter with an 1171 combined score. She has finished in the top three on the team in every match. Very impressive for a plebe. Head Coach Web Wright praised Anusha by saying, "She is laser-focused on the tasks at hand and uses every second to her advantage, thanks to CEP helping her with study and time management strategies. he is definitely pushing her upper class teammates to higher performance levels.
Women’s Basketball - Sarah Bohn ’22, is a cow and starting guard on the Army West Point Women's Basketball Team; she earned a 3.89 grade-point average during Fall 2020. She has continued to increase her grade-point average since entering the Academy in 2018, and currently maintains a 3.78 CQPA as an Organizational Psychology major. Recently, Bohn was selected to join the West Point Scholarship Program. She joins an elite crop of cadets who will have the opportunity to compete for notable graduate scholarship, including the Rhodes Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, and Truman Scholarship, among others. One the court, Bohn continues to be a reliable, steady contributor. She has started all 13 games in the 2020-21 season and has earned starting honors in all but the first 10 games of her career. Bohn averages 7.5 points per game while shooting .405 from the field and .386 from the 3-point stripe. Read more.
