The Army West Point Track and Field teams had three athletes recognized by the Patriot League for their standout performances last weekend in the annual Army-Navy star meet on Tuesday afternoon. Amongst the list of conference leaders for the week were Georgia Jones, Jamir Gibson and Emily Mikoud.
Despite a tough loss to the Mids on both sides, all three athletes had record breaking performances in their respective events. Cow Emily Mikoud swept the shot put and weight throw against Navy to claim her second-consecutive Patriot League Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Mikoud won the weight throw marked at 20.49m and shot put at 15.48m, posting ECAC-qualifying distances in both events. Her shot put mark of 15.48m set a meet record, and her weight throw distance of 20.49m broke the meet and facility records.
Jamir Gibson also swept the throwing events for the Black Knights on the men's side, to receive field athlete of the week. Gibson won the weight throw (19.48m) and shot put (18.17m), with IC4A-qualifying throws in both events. The Zion, Ill. native's 19.48m weight-throw distance is currently 63rd in NCAA DI while his 18.17m shot put is 37th at the DI level.
Plebe Georgia Jones first career Army-Navy performance grabbed her Patriot League Rookie of the Week for her time in the 3,000m. Jones set a Star Meet record in the 3,000 meters by winning the race in a time of 9:42.62 and posted the third-best indoor 3,000m time in program history in addition to qualifying for the ECAC Championships.
