Plebe guard Jalen Rucker was named Patriot League GEICO Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Rucker picked up the award by scoring in double figures in both of the Black Knights' games against Colgate over the weekend. The Baltimore, Md. native averaged 15.5 points and 3.0 assists in two games while tying his career-high with 18 points against the Raiders on Sunday.
Rucker earned the honor for the second time this season, as he picked it up on January 26 as well. He is the only Black Knight to have won a weekly honor from the Patriot League so far on the season. Rucker is averaging 9.6 points per game on the year, with 10 steals and 45 assists. He is 53-for-149 from the field and 27-for-37 from the charity stripe. He has started all 15 games on the year and is averaging 23.3 minutes per game, good for fourth-most on the team.
The Patriot League men's basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school's sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes. Rucker and the Black Knights are back in action this weekend vs. Holy Cross as they host the Crusaders first on Saturday at 3 pm at Christl Arena before heading to Worcester, Mass., on Sunday at 3pm.
