Doubles Dominance Leads Men’s Tennis Over Sacred Heart
The Army West Point Men's Tennis team grabbed a solid season opening victory against Sacred Heart University this past Saturday afternoon in a 6-1 contest. “Our guys played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm today," said Head Coach Jim Poling. "Our doubles performance was solid, and we kept the pressure on Sacred Heart from the get-go for a solid team win.”
Army set the tone for the afternoon right from the start, notching three straight doubles victories to clinch the go-ahead team point for the Black Knights. The duo of Woodman and Lake kicked things off with a strong 6-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles slot immediately followed by a 6-3 win from Gorshein and Haikal in the No. 2. Eden and Huttepain closed things out in the final match, taking a 7-5 victory.
Despite some trouble in the opening singles matchup, the Black Knights went on to secure five straight, taking a 6-1 victory from the Pioneers. Huttepain and Nathan Jose each nailed breakaway victories in the No. 2 and No. 6, securing a healthy 3-0 lead for Army.
