After an outstanding performance against top ranked Syracuse University Sunday afternoon, the Army West Point Men's Lacrosse team tabbed three Patriot League Player of the Week honors.
Brendan Nichtern was selected as Offensive Player of the Week after tallying seven points against the Orange. The cow sat atop the Army leader board for the second straight weekend, after finding the back of the net four times against Syracuse while adding three assists. Nichtern currently leads the Black Knights in all three offensive categories with six goals, six assists and 12 points through two games. The Massapequa, NY native also currently ranks seventh nationally in points per game and tied for sixth in assists per game through week two.
The Black Knights also grabbed two other categories including Wyatt Schupler and Stevie Grabher who were named Goalkeeper of the Week and Faceoff Specialist of the Week. Schupler was lights out for Army in the net, recording 13 saves on 24 shots faced while also grabbing three ground balls. The cow was key in halting the Orange offense, holding them scoreless for 12 total minutes between the end of the first and second periods. Grabher had a strong outing at the X against the Orange, winning 13-of-25 faceoffs. Through two weeks, the yearling has battled to a strong .485 faceoff percentage.
Army is back in action this weekend on home turf as they welcome Saint Joseph's University to Michie Stadium on Saturday, February 27 at 12 p.m.
