The No. 6 Army West Point Men’s Lacrosse team recorded their third-straight win and first conference victory of the year on Saturday afternoon in a fourth period battle with Boston University. Brendan Nichtern and Nickolas Edinger each tallied hat tricks and the defense stood tall in the final minutes to give the Black Knights a 12-10 edge over the Terriers.
Nichtern scored at least three goals for the third consecutive game and added three assists for six points. The cow captain tops the offensive leader board for the Black Knights in both goals (13) and assists (12) for a team high 25 points. Edinger tallied his second hat trick of the season for 10 points on the year, ranked third overall in goals and points. Bobby Abshire and Nicholas Garofano each added a pair of goals on the day. The Black Knights out shot the Terriers 27-24 while picking up 42 ground balls to Boston's 31. Stevie Grabher was essential at the x for Army, winning 16-of-27 faceoffs. Marcus Hudgins and Wyatt Schupler were a dynamic duo for the Black Knights on defense. Hudgins recorded a season high five caused turnovers and five ground balls while Schupler notched a season high 17 saves in net.
The Black Knights jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in the first quarter with goals from five different players and Nichtern led the way with a goal and two assists in the opening 15 minutes. Boston University chipped away in the second quarter with Vince D'Alto scoring twice and Timmy Ley adding another. Army was silenced a bit after a big first quarter and was held to solo goals by Garofano and Edinger as the Black Knights took a 7-3 lead into the half. Read more.
