Cadets Rafferty ’21 and Wait ’23 Modeling for a Lunar Base
Published on March 9, 2021
Our students are asking big, bold, and important questions that will impact the future. Here, CDT Tom Rafferty ’21 and CDT Marley Wait ’23, members of a larger Chemistry & Life Science and Geography & Environmental Engineering “Space Waste Team,” are modeling anticipated methane production from anaerobic co-digestion on a future lunar base. Ultimately, their initial research question is “what mass of astronaut waste is required to produce one gram of bioplastic?" What a great example of the power of curiosity and collaboration!
