Baseball Takes Midweek Contest at St. Joe's, 4-3
The Army Black Knights won their ninth-straight contest as they defeated Saint Joseph's University on the road, 4-3, yesterday afternoon. The Black Knights (12-11) scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning off an RBI single from Sam Ruta and reliever Connelly Early took the win as the tossed 3.0 scoreless down the stretch.
The Black Knights got on the board first, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Jeremiah Adams got us started with an RBI double down the left field line, followed by a Derek Berg single through the left side to plate the second run of the inning. The Hawks (5-6) didn't waste any time, however, as Callahan delivered a solo home run off Army starter Joel Rubin, and the Army lead was cut in half, 2-1.
The Hawks then tied the ballgame up in the fourth inning as Picollo came through with an RBI single off Rubin. Rubin's final line was two runs, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. He earned the no-decision. The Black Knights answered right back, however, as Carter Macias delivered a sac fly to take the lead back, 3-2. Read more.
