Hershberger Joins Track & Field Staff
Army West Point Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Mike Smith announced the addition of Ryan Hershberger to his track and field staff on Monday afternoon. Hershberger will oversee the throwers as an assistant coach.
“I have known Ryan for quite some time first as an athlete at K-state and more recently as a coaching colleague,” said Smith. “He has accomplished a lot in his short career, and we are lucky to have him join our staff. There is a consistent level of praise for Ryan from peers and mentors regarding his talent, his acumen, and his work ethic.”
Hershberger joins the Black Knights from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he served as an assistant track and field coach. During his tenure with the Forty-Niners, Hershberger oversaw the throwing events helping UNC Charlotte win seven Conference-USA titles in the throwing events. He assisted student-athletes in setting program records in the men's shot put, women's hammer throw and men's discus throw.
This past season, Hershberger guided senior thrower Terrell Adams to an NCAA Championship berth in the discus throw, where he finished eighth and earned First Team All-American honors.
Prior to his time with the Forty-Niners, Hershberger was a volunteer assistant coach for his alma mater Kansas State University. As a student-athlete, he was an All-Big 12 and NCAA All-American selection in the shot put with a lifetime best of 19.29m (63'3"). Read more.
