Severe Weather Preparedness and Training
Outside of the classroom, our academic departments have robust experiential learning opportunities. This summer the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering conducted the Severe Weather Preparedness and Training summer immersion program, led by Dr. Adam Kalkstein and Maj Jim Hughes (USAF) with six cadets from the class of 2023. In addition to observing and learning about severe weather across five states, cadets visited three Air Force and two Army installations. Cadet-led interviews revealed how weather teams protect resources and personnel from severe weather, and how they support operations and training. Finally, cadets gained an appreciation of the geography and culture of the Great Plains and Southwest through a variety of stops such as White Sands National Park and Fort Sumner. Read more.
