Two from Men’s Soccer Take Home Player of the Week Awards
After an impressive week of competition, Army West Point Men’s Soccer took home two Patriot League Player of the Week awards. The Black Knights went 1-0-1 on the week, tying Fairfield in a dramatic comeback effort and dropping Siena 5-0 thanks to an impressive showing on the attacking side of the field. D'Anthony Brown and Oscar Pereira both played a crucial role in the effort, combining for four goals and three assists during the week to earn the League's Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Week Awards, respectively.
The duo was the catalyst behind the two-goal comeback Tuesday night against Fairfield, sparking the rally after connecting for a goal in the 79th minute when Brown fed Pereira for the Cadets' first score in the contest. Pereira would also record the assist on the equalizing goal from Justin McStay in the 85th minute to complete the comeback.
In the contest against Siena, Brown shined on both ends of the pitch. The junior scored two goals, including the first of the game, while also aiding in the defensive effort that shut out the Saints offense. The goals were also the first of Brown's career.
Pereira once again found the back of the net against the Saints which was his third straight game with a goal, and his second consecutive game with a goal and an assist. The New York native now has 11 points on the season which is good for tops in the Patriot League and puts him in a tie for second in the country. This is also the senior's second weekly award after earning the offensive player of the week award after the first week of the season. Read more.
