CDT Haywood ’25 Fieldwork & Data Analysis in Alaska
Published on July 12, 2022
CDT Brian Haywood ’25 is on an internship opportunity at the Cold Regions Research Laboratory in Fairbanks, Alaska. Helping with infrastructure planning, he’s working with a research team to complete a dye study by inserting dye deep into the ground to see where melted ice in the active layer of permafrost is flowing. They also built a data logger by digging a fiber optic line into the ground outside a dam to measure seepage hot spots. Out-of-classroom opportunities like this are made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence.
