The Touchdown Club of Columbus has named Army West Point head football coach Jeff Monken as the recipient of its 2018 President's Award. The award is presented annually by the Club President to the student-athlete or coach who excels above and beyond the field of play, or exhibits superior talent and leadership outside of the national spotlight. Monken led the Black Knights to their first 11-win season in the school's storied history. Army won its final nine games of the 2018 campaign, including a 70-14 victory over Houston at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. He also became the first West Point coach to win three consecutive bowl games and the first to record back-to-back 10-win seasons (2017 and 2018).
The 2018 President's Award will be presented during the 64th Touchdown Club of Columbus Awards on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Express Live! in the Arena District of downtown Columbus. Junior quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. was also acknowledged by the organization as one of their 2019 Players To Watch. He joins seven other quarterbacks on the list in Sam Ehlinger (Texas), Justin Herbert (Oregon), D'Eriq King (Houston), Jordan Love (Utah State), Kellen Mond (Texas A&M), Brady White (Memphis), and Zachary Wilson (BYU).
