Men's Lacrosse High Tempo Offense Breezes Past Colgate
The 18th-ranked Army West Point Men's Lacrosse Team topped Colgate 13-8 Saturday thanks to its high tempo offense. Ten of the Black Knights' 13 goals were assisted to give Army 23 points on the day. Five players recorded double-digit goals in the victory, while seven garnered multiple points in the performance. Brendan Nichtern netted a goal and dished out a career-tying four assists in the effort while picking up a career-high eight ground balls. Tommy Marino posted a career-high two goals in the game as Sean O'Brien, Miles Silva, Matt Manown and Nate Jones were also in the double-digit goal category. AJ Barretto made eight stops versus the Raiders and Johnny Surdick and Jordan Cole led the team with three caused turnovers.
For the ninth time this season, the Black Knights were the first team to strike. Manown fed a short pass into the slot where Miles Silva was waiting for the score to put Army ahead 1-0. Less than a minute later, Alex Alacqua passed across the offensive zone to Jeremy Angle who fired a shot and goal from the right side. The Raiders scored three-straight however to claim a 3-2 lead to start the second quarter. Nichtern connected with Jones at the 12:30 mark to tie things up at 3-3, but Colgate scored again to take its final lead of the game. A 3-0 run by the Cadets allowed them to take control of the game. Nichtern garnered a ground ball behind the net and scored on a wide lefty crease roll before assisting on the next two goals in the streak. O'Brien and Jones were the goal scorers. Colgate broke the run by scoring a man-up goal, but Army answered back with a man-up goal of its own. Read more.
