Columbia University Genomic Medicine Faculty Visits CadetsThe Director for Clinical Genetics, Ms. Louise Bier, and bioinformatician Dr. Nick Strong from Columbia University visited the Genetics course to guide cadets through patient focused case studies based on exome sequencing data. Cadets analyzed four patients with differing phenotypes and compared their genomic mutations to identify candidate genes, then utilized various databases (i.e., ClinVar) to identify significant variants while gaining practical experience for future use in the clinic. The visit is part of a new collaboration between Columbia University's Institute for Genomic Medicine and the Department of Chemistry and Life Science.
