Yearling Jackie Brattan of the Army West Point Women's Lacrosse Team was named the AWPAA Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Brattan had quite the offensive showing in a 2-0 week for the Black Knights that featured the program's first-ever wins over Holy Cross and Lehigh. The second-year attack had 11 points on 11 goals to go with nine draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover. She was electric in the Black Knights' 19-13 home win over the Crusaders on Wednesday, scoring a career-high six goals to pair with six draw controls. Her performance gave her sole possession of fifth in all-time points at the Academy.
The Garden City, N.Y., native followed that up with a five-goal effort in a 16-13 road victory at Lehigh on Saturday. Brattan needed just seven shots to reach her scoring total. Four of her goals came in the second half to help Army capture the come-from-behind win. Her back-to-back high-scoring outings made her the first cadet in program history to tally five or more goals in two straight contests. Brattan has paced the team offensively with a Patriot League-best 39 goals to pair with eight hat tricks. She is currently tied with Rachel Hornick for first in single-season hat tricks.
The Black Knights will return to action on tomorrow when they play host to Lafayette for a Patriot League matchup slated for 3 p.m. at Michie Stadium.
