101st Airborne Division at Best and along Hell’s HighwayCadets on the Operation Market-Garden Staff Ride examined the actions of the 101st Airborne Division at Best and along Hell’s Highway. From an in-depth analysis of H Co., 3rd BN, 502nd PIR’s attempt to seize the Best bridge to discussions about the fierce fighting at Veghel, Eerde, and Koevering as the Germans sought to cut the main Allied supply route north, cadets gained an appreciation for the distance that the 101st Airborne was forced to cover in an attempt to prevent German interdiction of Hell’s Highway. Through this study, they also gained an understanding of the significant impact that the cutting of the highway by German forces on multiple occasions between September 19 - 26 had on the overall operation.
