Taekwondo Takes 2nd at MITThe West Point Taekwondo team traveled to MIT to compete in their first competition of the year. The team made an impressive showing at their first tournament, placing 2nd overall out of 26 teams. Notable performances came from the Men’s B1 and C2 teams, taking home gold for their respective divisions. The B1 team consisted of Cadets Madison Curry, Richard Sung, and Joshua Havermale, and Cadets John Parker, Andy Deniz, and Shane Barry represented Army on the C2 team. The Women’s A2 team, consisting of Cadets Taylor Reim, Nicole Nettles and Esther Kang, earned silver in their division, losing a hard-fought match to Cornell who finished first overall.

The men’s C1 team consisted of Cadets Conner Sparks and Brock Curry and took third as a two-man team amongst other 3-man teams. Also receiving bronze were Cadets Seungchul Lee, Jeremy Good, and Jordan Huck on the Men’s A1 team and Chris Jin, Michael burke, and Tae Kim for Men’s A2. The team also had four cadets medal in the poomsae (Patterns) competition, the most ever for West Point. Cadet Richard Sung took Gold in his division, while Cadets Sierra Gordon, Shane Barry, and Jeremy Good took bronze in each of theirs. A tremendous first showing and the team hopes to keep the momentum as they progress through the Eastern Region tournaments.
