The Army West Point Softball team won both games in its doubleheader against Niagara yesterday. The Cadets (13-9) claimed the first game 12-1 in five innings, then topped the Purple Eagles 10-1 in the second game, which was also decided in five innings.
Nine different members of the team registered a hit in the contest, with five having multi-hit games. Leading the way were Alicyn Grete and Emily Ballesteros with three hits apiece. Ballesteros also had a season high three runs batted in.
Grete blasted her second home run of the season. Grete now owns a 16-game hit streak. Jolie Duong sent her third homer of the season over the fence. The Cadets wasted no time getting on the board with Grete blasting a lead off solo homer.
In the next at bat, Duong went yard to make the score 2-0. Army would add one more run before the end of the first inning, with Ally Snelling scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Ballesteros. Read more.
