Defensive coordinator Nate Woody was named the Defensive Coordinator of the Week by Athlon Sports after leading the Army defensive unit to a shutout of Middle Tennessee State in the season opener last Saturday.
In Woody's first game as the defensive coordinator for the Black Knights on September 5, his defense notched the second shutout of the Monken era. The shutout was also the first at Michie Stadium since 2011.
The unit held the Blue Raiders to just 184 total yards (3.8 per play) and did not allow a play longer than 21 yards. The Black Knights tallied four turnovers one sack and recorded six tackles-for-loss.
Middle Tennessee only had one drive that went for longer than 40 yards.
Under Woody's direction, Cedrick Cunningham was named the Bednarik Award Player of the Week after leading the defense with seven tackles, two as tackles-for-loss. He also notched his first career forced fumble and a sack. The Bednarik Award is given to the nation's top defensive player each year and honors the top defensive player nationally each week.
Woody, Cunningham and the Black Knights take on ULM on Saturday, September 12 at 1:30 p.m. CT at Michie Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
