The No. 5 Army West Point Rifle team earned a second place finish in the All-Academy President's Trophy match featuring service academy foes No. 6 Air Force, No. 14 Navy and No. 18 Coast Guard.
The match used the service academy scoring system, which counts the top five scores of eight selected scorers. The Black Knights finished with a mark of 5848 falling one point short of Air Force's tally of 5849. Navy took third place with a score of 5812 and Coast Guard finished in fourth with 5708.
Army finished with the top NCAA mark with an aggregate total of 4686 to match its program record, which it set last week. In all three of its matches this season, Army has set or matched its program record.
“I'm happy that we tied the program record which we reset last week,” said Army head coach Web Wright. “We will get some rest and gear up for tomorrow. I know we have more points in us and we can take Air Force tomorrow. We just need to do what we know how to do, relax and get in the zone.”
Plebe Kyle Kutz posted a mark of 589, which was just two points shy of tying Army's program record. Senior captain Clayton Hanson finished with the second highest aggregate score with 1178. Read more.
