Amadeo West, a firstie on the Army West Point Football team, was selected as a candidate for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award for the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), it was announced this past Friday. West was one of 30 players to be named candidates for the award.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. In order to be classified for the award, an NCAA Division I FBS senior must have notable achievements in the following four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.
Throughout his career, West has suffered three injuries that forced him to miss ample playing time, yet he was still named a team captain for the 2020 season. The Oceanside, Calif., native has accumulated 15 tackles (6 solo) and has 4.0 TFLs for a total loss of 16 yards in seven games played this season.
While back home in Oceanside, Calif., West helped hand out lunches at Caesar Chavez Middle School during quarantine. In addition, he serves as the Diversity and Inclusive Officer for Company C4 and is active in the Corps of Cadets community at West Point.
West was also named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Award watch list in September, an award that puts equal weight on exceptional performance on and off the field.
To determine the overall Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 candidates are narrowed to ten finalists at the end of the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system available to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs: community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the ten finalists will be awarded Senior CLASS Award first- or second-team honors.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in December. For more information on the candidates, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
