Marshall Beatty of the Army West Point Men's Cross Country team will represent the Black Knights next week at the 2021 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships. This year’s event will be held on Monday, March 15 at the OSU Cross Country course in Stillwater, OK.
Beatty will represent Army and the Patriot League in the men's championship race after claiming the individual title at the Patriot League Championships last weekend with a 4.7-mile time of 21:46.8 at Lehigh's Goodman Campus. Saturday's finish greatly surpassed his 13th finish in the 2019 season, earning him the Patriot League Outstanding Performer of the Meet and All-Patriot League First Team honors.
His appearance marks the fourth time in the past five years that the Patriot League has been represented at the NCAA DI Men's Cross Country Championships. Beatty will join Boston University's Andrea Claeson and Bucknell's Ashlyn Ramos as the three Patriot League representative in Oklahoma.
“Marshall has been working toward this opportunity for a number of years now and I am happy for him that his hard work has been rewarded,” said head coach Mike Smith. “This meet will be a great experience for him and a chance for him to compete against some of the world's best young distance runners. He belongs in this race and I know that he is excited to head out to Stillwater and represent Army and his teammates on the biggest stage in our sport.”
The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be televised on ESPNU and available on the ESPN App. Live coverage of the NCAA Championships will be available beginning at 12:30pm ET.
