Margin of Excellence Geology Field CourseCadets from Class of 2024 took the for-credit Geology Field Course AIAD with COL Mindy Kimball West Class of 1996 and traveled to Colorado to work on geologic mapping exercises. The Cadets also used their knowledge of rocks and minerals, together with a compass and a hand lens, to generate their own version of a geologic map.

“Colorado is awesome. I never thought I would have so much fun studying rocks. It brings the classroom to life and understanding what happened in the past helps me to make more accurate predictions on the future. I hope more Cadets get to do this in the future.” - CDT Jaela Rivera, ’24

Cadets also encountered West Point Grads and met with veterans from the Army and the Marine Corps who now work in mining and petroleum engineering at locations like Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine. This summer’s trip was supported by the Class of 1964 Academy Scholars Endowment!
