USMA Partners with CBC Developing Battlefield Drones
Published on March 11, 2022
Cadets, faculty, and CBC engineers have partnered to develop drone-swarming behaviors to increase battlefield situational awareness. They conducted a swarm flight test at West Point to demonstrate recent architecture and software upgrades. Each drone contains a Chemical Detection Module using the Array Configured of Remote Network Sensors interface (ACoRNS). The goal of this collaborative effort is to autonomously distribute swarm resources for remote sensing and chemical plume characterization and mapping. “Working with our future leaders and military faculty at West Point is critical to develop their research acumen to lead in an increasingly complex environment.” - Lester D. Strauch III, Division Chief, DEVCOM CBC.
