Maddie Burns of the Army West Point Women's Lacrosse team was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week yesterday afternoon.
Burns was stellar in between the pipes to help the Black Knights secure an 11-8 road win over East Carolina on Saturday. She limited an East Carolina team that was on a five-game winning streak and averaging 15 goals per game over its first six contests, to a season-low eight goals.
The firstie netminder posted 10 saves, marking the second time this season that she tallied double-digit stops in a contest. Six of her 10 saves came in the second half as Army extended its lead before claiming its seventh straight victory of the year, tying the program record for longest winning streak.
Burns and the Black Knights return to action on Saturday when they head to Worcester, Mass., to open league play against Holy Cross. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m.
